New Year's Eve, 1/1/11 and Off the Binky!

Happy New Year! Good bye 2010! It's been a great year and I will miss it, but I'm excited for everything 2011 has in store.
On the last day of 2010, Leah and I spent most of the day in our jammies. We did go outside for a little bit in the afternoon. Leah likes to walk to the little orchard and she always picks an orange to take home. Later that evening, we went out to dinner to celebrate my birthday and New Year's Eve with some good friends. It being a Friday night and New Year's Eve, we had to wait a LONG time for a table and our food. Leah was great throughout the evening.
Group picture of us after dinner. Jenna, Jason, Tom, Leah, me, and Holly.
After dinner, Holly came over and we watched the movie Twilight Eclipse. 10 minutes before midnight, we tuned in to watch the ball drop and ring in the New Year. Going out for a nice dinner and hanging out with friends - it was a nice way to wrap up a great year.On the first day of 2011, Tom, Leah and I had a relaxing day at home.

MY BABY IS NO LONGER USING A BINKY! Can you tell I'm super happy about it? Over the holidays, Leah was so busy playing with everyone, she practically forgot about her binky. When everybody left, I decided not to give it back to her (since she had gone a week without it). Oh, let's just say that Leah didn't forget her old friend! She asked for it, pleaded, cried, got mad, and cried some more. The first night was hard - my poor baby cried for about 40 minutes (we almost gave in but she suddenly fell asleep)! The second night, she cried for about 15 minutes. The next few nights, she never cried but continued asking for it. When we said, "no binky", she accepted it and went to sleep. Eventually, she stopped asking for it all together.

We applied Aletha Solter's loving method of listening to Leah and being there for her. We let her cry for as long as she wanted, held her (when she wanted to be held), stayed with her when she pushed us away, listened and tried to empathize.
